Module Overview

Content Production (and Use)

Goal

Provide an overview of 3D content production techniques and learn how to load models into a jMonkeyEngine scene graph. Learn how to work with geometry and surface characteristics of models using jMonkeyEngine.

Content

This module comprises of:

Literature

Lecture notes/slides.

Tutorial (3) - Hello Assets.

Tutorial (6) - Hello Materials.

How to Use Materials.

Saving and Loading Materials with .j3m Files.

Alan Watt, 3D Computer Graphics, Chapter 2.

(Further reading for those expecially interested in modelling: Michael O'Rourke, Principles of Three-Dimensional Computer Animation,Chapters 1 og 2).

Exercises

Experiment with using the OGRE DotScene loader to load data in a jMonkeyEngine scene. See under Tools for links to free modelling tools if you are interested in trying to model a little yourself.

Here are some models that you can use, they can be extracted from these zip-files: models.zip and rooms.zip

Alternatively you can find free models on the web (ex. 3D Warehouse) and load these in your application. Use this guide to configure the Ogre DotScene exporter in Blender.
